Feature Friday – Glass City Stagers

Sharon Schaffer founded Glass City Stagers so that she could use her passion and skill for home design in a way that brings the seller relief while having fun helping them prepare their home for the competitive housing market. Sharon offers her staging, decorating and space planning services in over 20 cities across the Southern Michigan and Northern Ohio area.

“I was born and raised in Michigan and moved six times in 13 years with two toddlers! After returning to my hometown in 2014, my husband encouraged me to turn my experience, passion for houses, and decorating into a business and help others navigate through these same ‘moving’ waters.”

Sharon has made her way from Ohio to Michigan, Georgia, New Orleans and then back to Michigan. She has lived and knows the stress of moving very well as well as the difficulty but importance of having your home ‘show ready’ at any given moment for those prospective buyers.

“Buying a home is an emotional affair often dictated by the buyer’s gut feelings rather than hard facts. Every property has its own personality and I love the challenge of enhancing each home differently without distracting from it.  Whether it’s a vacant or occupied home, my passion is implementing the proper decor, scale-to-size furniture, and efficient space planning.? I am a certified Professional Property Stager and a member of the Real Estate Staging Association®.”

Learn more about Sharon:

When I am not working I enjoy…

Spending time with my husband and kids; music, walking.

My go to staging accessory is…

Faux plants!

What part of owning your own business is the least enjoyable for you and why?

Financials; keeping everything in order on a weekly basis. It’s easy to procrastinate in this area.

What does a perfect day look like to you?

Shopping for an interior decorating client and purchasing items with their funds; coming home to a cooked meal with a glass of wine!

What project are you really excited about right now and why?

Staging a newly constructed home for a builder that I just met and helping an elderly client decorate her new villa for herself!

When you are in a rut creatively where do you go or what do you do to get out of it?

I will peruse Instagram or Google sometimes, but mostly I pray about everything as I work. If I’m in a rut on a project, I will leave it to work on another area and continually ask and talk it through. Every time an idea comes to me that wasn’t there originally.

Before I was staging…

I worked at our area zoo as the PR/Special Events Coordinator and after getting married, stayed at home to raise our two children.

My personal aesthetic is…

Minimalistic; modern.

Good staging should…

Be fluid throughout the home with a good traffic pattern; correct scale-to-size furniture; simple, while highlighting the house’s unique character.

My motto is…

As far as staging:  “Enhance without Distract.”

I am…

Observant, practical, honest, detail-oriented, energized by a challenge, compassionate and fair.

My morning ritual is…

Quiet time with God.

When faced with a struggle…

I pray and ask for wisdom.

I love staging because…

I can be artistic and challenge myself with every property because every home is different and deserves to be showcased as such.

Why do you choose to support and be a part of RESA®?

I like being part of an accountable community with like-minded professionals who I can share and celebrate work with while also bouncing off ideas and supporting one another.
