Rachel Chang of the Greater Toronto Area has been in the design industry since 2012. Prior to that she graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Finance and Accounting, and worked in finance industry for 5 years. We had a chance to interview her and learn more about her career and personal life!

I am: Rachel Chang, the founder and chief real estate stager at Rising Venus Design.
Rising Venus Design: is a real estate staging and design company located in Markham Ontario. We are here to provide one-stop staging and interior decorating services and solutions to real estate agents and home owners in the Greater Toronto Area. With honored industrial credentials, years of business experiences, and high customer satisfaction rate, we are thrilled to become your number one staging and re-decorating partner.
I love staging because: it is a way I can help people by applying what I’m good at. I enjoy the mutual benefits of this job, to assist people in one of their biggest life events and also to unleash my itch of being creative.
My personal aesthetic is: Contemporary/Transitional/Modern Rustic/Scandinavian
Good staging should: be able to elevate the livable potential of the property, to keep the buyers staying as long as possible during showings, and to elegantly show functionality of each sq ft without creating congestion. Since the beginning of my staging business, I have been living by my slogan, “Home staging is all about putting yourself into the place and seeing if you would love to live there for a million years” which is posted on my website. This is always what guides me when I’m working on a project from design to showcase.
Right now I’m obsessed with: creating a niche and adding detailed design elements to my work rather than sticking to the “formula of staging”. I love to give characteristics to my work, while not being too personal to keep the home in the best interests of potential buyers. As one of the millennials, I’m familiar with what they are fond of and can capture their eyes with my design.
Before I was staging: I was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where I studied finance and accounting. I then went on to work in the financial services industry for 5 years. Even though I’m good at math and numbers, I didn’t feel any passion and meaning in that job. After quitting my employed job, I took a couple years to try different things in life. For example, opening a home decoration shop, going to school for floral design and joining a well-known wedding studio as a floral designer. All of these precious experiences led me to start my own staging business.
It’s my goal to: experience different prospects in my limited lifetime, and to get to know more about this world. You don’t know what you will become after this life, so don’t waste time worrying about nonsense.
My morning ritual: always starts with a cup of home-brewed coffee and feeding my dog, Butter, who is my source of power.
I love what I do because: there are numerous opportunities to put my imaginative ideas into reality, and to see the eye-widening and big smiles on peoples’ faces.
My number one goal this year is to: work closer with more agents and brokerages, by establishing a comprehensive and mutual beneficial working relationship, and to educate them how staging will make the changes on improving their relationship with the clients.
My favorite meal after a long day of staging is: a bowl of hot soup. Skipping lunch is often part of my staging day (I know it is really bad and I’m trying to change that). I feel all my exhaustion and tensioned nerves going away, after sipping the soup in my pleasing couch and it will prepare my stomach better for dinner.
In the next 5 years: I will work hard to make Rising Venus Design a trusted and quality brand in staging and interior design area. I want to assist as many agents as possible and clients to accomplish their goals in selling a property or to craft a lovable place to live.
When faced with a struggle: I will calm myself down, write down what’s on my mind and try to find solutions. I believe that there are always solutions to every problem. I also like to share ideas, problems and emotion with my great partner Katheryn who is my number one staging alliance! She has been giving great support to me in terms of business solutions and interpersonal matters.
Felicia has a background in production design and studied at Academy Of Art University where she had a focus in Motion Pictures And Television. In her free time you can find her reading about the latest marketing trends or hanging out with her husband in Disneyland.
