Tips and Guidelines

Press Release Tips

  1. It must be newsworthy! Reporters don’t care about your business, they care about their readers interest.
  2. If your press release is not really press release worthy, turn it into an article that would interest a consumer.
  3. Have your first few sentences grab the attention of the reader.
  4. Don’t over use words.
  5. While posting press releases online will sometimes draw the attention of reporters, if your release is that newsworthy send it directly to the newsroom of your local TV or Newspaper.  Call and ask how to submit they will tell you.
  6. Include, Who, What, Where, When, Why, and sometimes How.
  7. Have quotes from the important parties.
  8. Write the release for the media. Make their job easy by including important information they can turn into a story.
  9. Avoid hype
  10. Develop a standard boiler plate to include at the bottom of the release with your standard for more information contact, Your name, your phone number, website etc.
