We brought back one of Vegas’ most talked-about sessions for an encore on Zoom, and it delivered. In “Leaving Your 9–5 and Making the Leap into Home Staging Entrepreneurship,” coach Marianne Cherico walked us through the mindset, business foundations, and practical pricing moves that help you trade employee habits for CEO decisions.
Below is a quick recap of what attendees said resonated most and how you can put it to work today. If you missed it, you can still grab the replay.
1) Mindset First: Act Like the CEO You’re Becoming
Marianne emphasized that your mindset drives everything—from pricing to visibility to how you interpret inevitable missteps. The shift is moving from an employee mindset to a CEO mindset that prioritizes high-leverage actions and doesn’t make “failure” mean anything about your worth.
“Mindset affects everything… pricing, showing up, being visible, not making failure mean anything.”
Why it mattered to attendees: It reframed growth as a series of experiments—not verdicts—so they could stop playing small and start steering the business.
2) Build the “Boring but Essential” Foundation
Attendees loved the straightforward checklist approach to setting up core business assets so you can focus on the “meaty stuff” of growth (branding, marketing, selling). Think legal/financial basics, your website and presence, and simple systems you’ll actually use.
Why it mattered: Clarity beats overwhelm. Knowing what to set up—and in what order—shortens the distance from idea to income.
3) Market Intelligence & Positioning (Know Your Lane)
Marianne urged stagers to understand local expectations and use that knowledge to position your services. For example, some regions expect full vacant staging; others aren’t used to it—so you can lead with occupied solutions and educate the market. The goal isn’t “beat competitors,” but stand out by solving a clear problem.
Why it mattered: Attendees saw how to differentiate without “being everything to everyone.”
4) Client Clarity ? Magnetic Messaging
Define your ideal clients (you can have more than one) and speak to what they truly value—often agents who want help winning listings. Marianne shared a simple message formula:
We provide [service] ? so you get [strategic benefit] ? so you feel [emotional benefit].
Why it mattered: Attendees left with language for emails and posts that sells without feeling salesy.
5) Start with 2–3 “Dialed-In” Packages
Resist the urge to offer everything. Start with a tight set of offers—clearly named, clearly for someone, and clearly outcome-driven. This makes your marketing sharper and your operations smoother.
Why it mattered: Focused packages are easier to price, sell, and deliver—especially while you’re still wearing multiple hats.
6) Price Like a Pro (and Protect Profit)
Don’t become “the lowest-price stager.” Do your market scan, but price from profit clarity:
- Establish your billable CEO rate (even if you sell flat or day-rates).
- Know your overhead and allocate a per-job amount to cover it.
- Add assistants, rentals, and true time—don’t guess.
Why it mattered: Attendees left with a realistic pricing lens that funds growth instead of starving it.
7) Build Momentum by Celebrating Wins
From “the agent called back” to “first consult booked,” log daily wins—they compound. It keeps you focused on progress (and makes the hard days survivable).

Final thought: Investing in yourself is step one
If you want to operate beyond a 9–5, start by investing in the mindset and tools that help you show up as the owner—not the employee. This encore gives you a practical, confidence-building path to do exactly that.
