Learn more about Christine:
I am: Christine Cowles Bergamin, owner of Styled & Staged Santa Barbara
I love staging because: It combines my love of design with the organizational, marketing, and planning skills needed to run a business. I’ve always preferred to be the “behind the scenes” person, so I like creating the scene for prospective buyers to walk into a home and hopefully make the connection needed to purchase the property.
My style is: clean and minimal with lots of white, beige, and ivory as well as natural elements like wood, brass and ceramic, though the style of the home always dictates. Personally my style is white jeans and navy tops… ask my husband – I only wear blue and white.
Good staging should: look effortless while enhancing the features of the home. Great staging makes the homeowner question whether they should sell! Ha!
Right now I’m obsessed with: midcentury modern boho, Target’s Project 62 line, and everything designer Emily Henderson does.
Staging is: tapping into a buyers’ desired lifestyle and creating an emotional connection from the buyer to the home.
It’s my goal to: more clearly define my niche instead of trying to be everything/stage every type of house.
My motto is: have the courage to imagine a new life and career based on your passion… it isn’t easy but it is worth it!
I love what I do because: I feel like I’ve found what I’ve always wanted to do, but just didn’t know it existed as an industry and career until a few years ago. As a child, I was always re-arranging my bedroom furniture while working on the massive floor-to-ceiling art collage that covered my bedroom walls. I wanted to be a visual merchandiser in the fashion industry, but took another career path years ago.
My biggest accomplishment this year has been: Writing a business plan and creating a 5-year plan for growth. Also, I am still in the process of getting to the point where I can work full time as a home stager, so just juggling my part time job with the growing needs of my business feels like a huge accomplishment.
My favorite meal after a long day of staging is: who am I kidding… burger and fries!
In the next 5 years: I plan to expand my inventory, move into a larger storage facility, and have enough clients be working full time in my business.
