The RESA Executive Committee along with the RESA National Board voted to amend the RESA Code Of Ethics in 2019 to include a statement about before and after photos.
Too often, we have seen negative and insulting comments about the condition of the property or the seller’s possessions on social media. The committee rightly believes that this is unprofessional and can not only possibly affect the sale of the property, but also reflect poorly on our industry.
We also understand that other associations believe that sharing “before” photos is acceptable. We feel that by not sharing “before” photos until after the sale is closed, we will always show the property in the best possible light but will also be seen as more professional. (Please note that this does not apply to vacant properties)
The official amendment to the Code of Ethics is stated as:
“Before” photos of a property showing homeowner’s possessions are not to be publicly shared in any format until after the sale is closed.
