Joké Durojaiye is the Founder and Creative Director of Genesis Home Staging based in Redmond, Washington. Since launching in September 2018 Joké has seen rapid growth in her business. From one storage unit to three storage units and a warehouse, then a bigger warehouse, and an exciting milestone: celebrating Genesis Home Staging’s second anniversary and one hundred staged homes.
Before bringing Genesis Home Staging to life, Joké had a career as a Licensed Real Estate Broker and Graphic/Web Designer. When asked why she decided to become a home stager, Joké says “It was a natural progression from my design and real estate backgrounds to be able to turn my talent and passion into a business that adds value to home sellers, agents, and homebuyers.”
Learn more about Joké:
I am…
very friendly and dependable. I don’t believe in sweating the small stuff and really, it’s all small stuff.
Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my mom, she makes a lot out of nothing. She has this abiding peace and joy even in the face of adversity. Her positive energy is contagious.
When you are in a rut creatively where do you go or what do you do to get out of it?
When I get in a rut, it’s usually from things being out of place. My mind works well when things are organized, so that is where I start from. Once the little details are taken care of, I am inspired to create.
What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
Mostly about my kids and what I need to be doing for or with them. Also, things I can do to improve my business process for efficiency.
I love staging because…
The home selling process can be an emotional roller coaster, packing up years of family memories, the stress of getting a home ready, and the anxiety of not knowing if or when the home will sell. It gives me joy to bring a positive outcome to the process and a true honor to be trusted with homes that are often the most prized possessions of my clients.
Right now I am obsessed with…
Audible, because I love reading but don’t have the time to sit down and read a book. 🙂
Good staging should…
Involve intentional space planning; creating definition, flow, and function to highlight the best features of a home and eliminate distractions. A successfully staged home evokes an emotional connection with potential buyers, so they can visualize themselves in the home.
What does a perfect day look like to you?
Lounging in my bathrobe sipping tea with my phone turned off and absolutely nothing on my calendar. Call me when you find that day 🙂
What project are you excited about right now and why?
I am excited about the organization of my new warehouses and implementing our new inventory system. It’s been a work in progress and I can’t wait to start reaping the benefits.
My number one goal this year is…
Self-care and more time with family!
