Allie Milus Reflects on 2018

Being involved in a Leadership position for the Real Estate Staging Association allows you to get involved with your local staging community, while making a difference in the home staging industry. RESA Headquarters is so thankful for those leaders who are making way in their communities and dedicating their time and knowledge to advance professionalism and excellence in real estate staging.

Reflecting With Allie Milus RESA Metro Detroit Chapter President-Elect

When and what made you decide to get involved in RESA leadership?

I got involved with RESA Leadership when the Secretary position of the Metro Detroit Chapter became available last Spring. While I first feared it would take time away from building my own business, I was surprised that I instantly enjoyed being more involved and being a part of the leadership team to help make a difference with building our young Chapter.

When the President-Elect had to remove herself from the position a few months later, I felt I wanted to challenge myself even further and requested consideration for the President-Elect position. And now, in a few short weeks, I’ll be embracing the position of the Metro Detroit Chapter President for 2019.

What advice do you have for others who are interested in being involved with RESA leadership?

Don’t hesitate .. get involved!  Being in a leadership position will help you become a leader in every aspect of your personal and business life.  Being in a RESA Leadership position is an amazing unique opportunity to make a difference for your chapter and your chapter members.

Having a Leadership title gives you advantages, there’s no doubt: it opens doors to networking with Affiliates, partnering with Realtors, joining forces with quality Trades, scheduling events, and meeting ‘leaders’ of other businesses and associations.

The bonus is it also validates YOU as a leader in the Staging industry by getting your own name and business out there in the community as well.. and adding additional value to your own business.

Demonstrating that being a RESA Leader or a member of the Real Estate Staging Association, nationally and locally, means you abide by a Code of Ethics; that clients will know they are working with a certified staging company who puts the clients needs first and foremost.

Being in a RESA leadership role, and working together with your chapter’s board members is an Honor that gives you the ability to decide on, and navigate, the best options for your chapter to show the value you offer and how that value enables you to give back to your communities as a collective group. It’s a wonderful, worthy experience. I highly encourage everyone to get involved in a RESA leadership position.

What do you hope to see for the staging industry in the next 5 years?

  • Nationwide validation and awareness that Home Stagers are an integral player in preparing homes for sale; visually and functionally, with a specialized skillset that creates Equity.
  • That all Realtors will partner with a Certified Home Stager to offer their clients Added Value… in order to achieve a quick and profitable sale.
  • A house won’t be Listed without a Pre-Listing Consultation from a Certified Home Stager.. If you shouldn’t buy a house without a Home Inspection then you shouldn’t SELL a House without a Pre-Listing Inspection from a Home Stager.
  • That “Home Staging” becomes a common term that doesn’t need further explanation .. and it will become the norm when Selling a home, Renting an Investment property .. or even for enhancing/staging a retail space for increased appeal.

Specifically FOR Stagers and the Staging industry:

  • more furniture rental companies to choose from .. or
  • existing rental companies to expand their ‘inventory’ and offer more variety of furniture styles/selection, more accessories, + canvas artwork in addition to their framed artwork
  • “Home Stager” or “Home Staging” becoming an official category selection in drop down menus on social media, Trade accounts, or other sites that ask our industry name (to eliminate having to choose “Interior Designer” in many cases)
