Get To Know The 2019 RESA Kitchener-Waterloo Chapter President-Elect Dawn Fisher

How long have you been staging?

This year will make six years.

What are you most excited for in 2019 in regards to your local chapter?

“RESA On The Road” we had a good response when we went out to various suppliers in the area. So this should be a great year of learning. Also, by being on the board I’m learning a lot more about RESA because I’m in the meat of it. So I’m very excited about that.

What goals do you have for your position on your local RESA board?

To learn as much as I can about what RESA can offer our membership so I’m able to help educate current and future chapter members of the advantages.

What is your favorite meal after a long day of staging?

Sadly Wendy’s Baconator takes away the stress. New goals this year is to take that off my plate lol!

What type of music do you listen do while staging?

Dance…if I can sing and shake my booty while I work I’m a happy lady lol!

What is your best advice for anyone who is looking to get into the staging industry?

Do it! But be realistic this isn’t a hobby, this is a business and you really need to have a business mindset to be uber successful.

What would you share with someone who is thinking about attending their local RESA chapter?

Please do…being apart of the Kitchener-Waterloo has brought so many wonderful new friends and colleagues into my life. I’m truly grateful to have a group of people who I can express my frustrations and they get it, as well as offer positive solutions. But also the triumphs, there is nothing like having achieved something and the group is cheering you on.

What did you do before you were a home stager?

I actually still am doing what I did before in a way. It’s been kind of a merge of everything where one works off the other. Interior Design is where I started and soon landed myself in the Film & Television industry working on huge feature films doing set design (Yah Hollywood North), that transitioned into styling TV commercials for some large corporations such as Cineplex, Canadian Tire, Staples to name a few. This opened up my schedule for me to get back into residential design. My interests landed me into the real estate investment world and it was only natural for me to get more involved in the world of staging.

Who is one stager or designer you would like to shadow for a day?

Hmmm there are so many. So you’re getting more than one. Nate Berkus for the merging of my two worlds of TV and Design, but that would also include Jane Lockhart, Sarah Richardson, and of course Kimberley Seldon. To be a fly on the wall as Frank Lloyd Wright created “Fallingwater”. I could go on but it would be endless.

What do you enjoy doing with your free time?

Laughing, but that is very much apart of my life every day. The likely hood of me laughing at myself is huge. Live and Learn and Laugh that shhh off! lol! Also, taking my boy Dallas (Double Golden Doodle) out for walk is such an escape.
