Cori Cann is the founder of Designs by Cori Ann, LLC, in which she provides home staging, redesign, and e-design for clients in the suburban Detroit, MI area. She was introduced to home staging during a conversation in which she mentioned wanting to express her creativity in design.
HGTV was really popular and I wanted to get in on ‘all the rage’. I took the Home Staging Resource course while teaching full-time so that when I retired I could move on to my new adventure and poof! Designs by Cori Ann was born.
After 30 years as a special education teacher, she turned to RESA Accredited Education Provider, Home Staging Resource, to earn her Certified Home Stager & Redesigner certification. Later adding Certified Color Expert, Expert E-Designer, and RESA Member credentials to increase her experience and marketability.
It’s been a fun ride and a great learning experience; networking with other stagers, being a member of RESA, and continuously gaining knowledge. I met so many great people at RESACON this past summer, and it reinforced that stagers bring so much value into making a home feel comfortable enough so buyers can envision living there.

What do you enjoy to do outside of work?
Shopping, reading, and eating out.
Good staging should…
Keep in mind scale, proportion, color, texture, style, lighting, emotional touches…to embody a sophisticated stage that will assist potential buyers in envisioning living in the home.

If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?
I would keep my purse, car, home, family, and friends.
My go to staging accessory is…
Pillows!
My morning ritual is…
To make my favorite tea and check my emails.
What part of owning your own business is the least enjoyable for you and why?
I don’t care for the tax/business end of it. I just want to be creative and stage homes.

What does a perfect day look like to you?
A perfect day is good weather, a nice lunch out at a great restaurant, and shopping with my friends.
What project are you really excited about right now and why?
I am really excited about creating new marketing materials for my business because I want to stay up to date and spread the news about what is trending and why people should choose me to help them with their design goals.
When faced with a struggle…
I take it one day at a time and try to resolve the issues in a professional, calm manner.

When you are in a rut creatively where do you go or what do you do to get out of it?
I look at model homes and get advice from other stagers.
My favorite meal after a long day of staging is…
Take out.

I get to be creative and share my design expertise.
Why do you choose to be a part of RESA?
To network with others, advance my education, be a part of an organization that accredits my HSR courses to show that I’m a valued professional, and to stay up to date with the staging industry.
