Julie Brown is the owner of Flair Style Co. in Meaford, Ontario, Canada. She credits her design flair to early exposure to creativity. That passion only grew over time as she was surrounded by multi-talented family members who all shared (and continue to share) a love of inspirational spaces, design, decor, and all forms of creativity. In 2016, following a career in various aspects of business, Julie embarked on a new adventure combining her love of design with her business skills to launch a home staging company. It was a natural fit.
“I had a friend suggest starting a staging company as a way to marry the two (business and design). After researching the various staging training options, I went with Certified Staging Professionals which provided the in-depth training I needed to get up and running with my business.”
Julie is proud to be a CCSP (Canadian Certified Staging Professional) operating under a Code of Ethics and is also a member of RESA.
“I joined RESA to feel connected to (and supported by) my ‘people’ so to speak. There’s so much to learn from all that RESA offers including networking with other stagers, keeping abreast of staging trends/stats, and learning via the many webinars and other educational materials provided. I respect all that RESA has done to create and maintain standards for the staging industry.” Julie adds.
Learn more about Julie:
My motto is…
Leave this world a little better than you found it. I believe that we’ve all been given special talents (gifts). Use those gifts to do good.
My personal aesthetic is…
Simple elegance. But this can be reflected in various design styles (farmhouse, rustic, traditional). I love colour (but not too bold), textures, clean/simple looks with a bit of an upscale ‘flair’.
Before I was staging…
I worked as a Program Development Manager at a non-profit therapeutic riding centre.
Right now I am obsessed with…
growing my business.
When I am not working I enjoy…
reading, nature walks, creativity of any kind (sewing, crafting, knitting)
I love what I do because…
staging makes sense and, because of that, it’s an easy sell and benefits all involved.
My morning ritual is…
coffee first … and then right to my MacBook to start the day!
If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?
My wedding ring, family photos, personal notes from my kids, my journal, my vintage wooden wall phone restored and gifted to me by my dad.
My favorite meal after a long day of staging is…
definitely take-out of any kind!
My goal is…
to grow in life and to enjoy the journey.
In the next 5 years…
I hope to still be staging and mentoring other stagers.
When faced with a struggle…
I’m always calm. I definitely need a quiet time to process and put a plan in place (by engaging the help of others).
Who is your role model and why?
I have many and all for very different reasons. Generally, my role models are individuals with integrity and those ‘comfortable in their own skin’. They remain true to themselves and their moral compass is rock solid.
Would you rather stage an occupied listing or vacant?
Vacant, hands down. The concept of a ‘clean slate’ is always more exciting and challenging for me.
