Feature Friday – Staging Austin

Meet RESA® member, Nakyla Garrison. She started her career as an interior designer after getting her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and Marketing from Oklahoma State University. Nakyla made the transition to home stager and founded Staging Austin when she realized she was wanting a more hands-on aspect in her work.

“I was missing that fun, creative, hands-on side that was few and far between at that point in my career. Instead of overseeing months of tile and paint projects, now I was accessorizing, shopping (in a warehouse) for fun decor while transforming spaces almost instantly! The best part of it all was making people money.”

Nakyla’s travels and experience teaching English in Costa Rica as well as being fluent in Spanish have contributed to her ability to meet all of her clients’ design needs.

She has graced an episode of HGTV’s ‘Flipping the Heartland‘, staged hundreds of homes and knows that staging will not only get you top dollar but in record time. Her goal is to make home staging affordable for everyone regardless of their budget.

“The proof is in the pudding. You can’t afford NOT to stage.”

Good staging should…

Not look staged.

My goal is…

To show my girls hard work pays off, so do your thang!

When faced with a struggle…

I become extremely resourceful. The ability to wear many hats, (plus my dad) have made me the jack of many trades.

I am…

A hopeful hard worker who never gives up. A bit of a chameleon that can go with the flow.

When I am not working I enjoy…

Spending time with the family.

Right now I am obsessed with…

Living room dance parties.

My morning ritual is…

Being late.

Who is your role model and why?

I have two, for different reasons. My grandmum and mum. They are crazy smart and can accomplish anything!

What part of owning your own business is the least enjoyable for you and why?

I am not a fan of keeping up with the books, contracts, and scheduling.

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?

Everything I have to do.

What does a perfect day look like to you?

Coffee, music and breakfast with the family, along with a day of football.

Would you rather stage an occupied listing or vacant?

Vacant staging is easier but I do love a challenge.

If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

My Eames chair, leopard fur coat, my dining table, my coffee cup, and my grandmother’s ring. I am picturing myself in all of these simultaneously and I’m digging it.

My go to staging accessory is…

A bird.

My favorite meal after a long day at Staging Austin is…

Anything mi amor cooks. It’s all phenomenal!

My personal aesthetic is…

Eclectic!
