Learn More About Amanda:
I am: Amanda Shields, the founder and lead professional stager at Mint Condition Staging.
Mint Condition Staging: Specializes in high quality, property staging for occupied and vacant properties in the Greater Toronto Area, York Region and surrounding areas.
My personal aesthetic is: Modern/contemporary design, mixed with rustic, west coast style.
Good staging should: Make potential buyers feel at home the minute they walk through the door. Using the proper placement, scale and style of furnishings and accessories, I aim to guide potential buyers through the property, highlighting the focal points of each room, and minimizing any imperfections.
Right now I’m obsessed with: Studio McGee, I love the broad appeal of her decorating style and I often scroll though her incredible, online portfolio when I need some inspiration.
Before I was staging: I have 15 years under my belt in the home décor industry, I have designed and developed home décor products for most of the major, mass retailers you know and love. I started my design career working alongside celebrity designer, Joe Mimran, as a member of his product design team. I’ve since managed design projects for Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, Target, President’s Choice Home, Homesense, Debbie Travis and Pottery Barn. Staging for the real estate market was a natural transition for me. I have a knack for knowing what sells and how to appeal to a broad demographic. I built a 15 year career on that knowledge and now I am excited to be extending that know-how to my staging business.
My dream vacation: This is a tough one, ultimately I would love to experience almost every country and culture at one some point in time. I love the idea of travelling to places like Morocco or Indonesia to learn about (and shop) their gorgeous traditional textiles. I hate coming home from a vacation completely exhausted, so some serious relaxation time would need to happen as well.
My morning ritual: Begins with the usual struggles every mom has to feed, dress and get her toddler to daycare. Once that is done, my day can really begin! Start me off with a massive green tea and 10-15 minutes of screen time to catch up on my social media, emails, ect.
I love what I do because: I’m good at it! I can’t tell you the satisfaction I get from seeing a property through the whole process of staging. I’m so passionate about what I do, it’s an incredible feeling knowing that your talent and expertise plays a critical role in getting that SOLD sign up for top dollar.
My number one goal this year is to: Continue building strong partnerships with more real estate agents, investors, builders and home sellers.
My favorite meal after a long day of staging is: That’s a no-brainer, homemade spaghetti and meatballs!
In the next 5 years: My goal is to keep growing my staging business, I want to grow into my own warehouse space and continue to build a strong base of happy, loyal and satisfied clients. Eventually, I would like to draw from my previous experience as a product designer and develop my own line of home decor products.
If I wasn’t staging I would be: Somewhere in the home décor field, I really can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
When faced with a struggle: I’m a natural problem solver, there is always a way to overcome any struggle, sometimes you just need to dig deep and get creative. Learn from every mistake and figure out ways to make sure they don’t happen again.
