Learn more about Joni Laycook

I am: Joni Laycook from Annapolis, Maryland. I’m an aries, beach lover, mother of 2, and I love thai food and karaoke.

Shore Studio Property Styling is: A property styling company, that provides home staging and interior design services.

I love staging because: I love creating something new and fresh, that is customized to each space. I love taking each room and making sense of it, giving it a life and feeling of it’s own. I love the ability to mix creative and sensible, functional and fabulous.

My style is: Kelly Wearstler and Joanna Gaines, with a little Johnathan Adler sprinkled in for giggles. LOL! Honestly I have a simple, yet eclectic style. I like to use color, texture, and scale to make an impact.

Good staging should: be memorable to each potential buyer. Whether it is the space planning, focal points, or a unique accessory or color, it should be memorable to each person that walks into the room.

Right now I’m obsessed with: Chunky, over-sized, knit throws, tufted rugs, and mixing neutral textures for a rich, defined look.

Staging is: the best marketing tool for selling a home.

It’s my goal to: help people, and to create beautiful, functional spaces.

My motto is: to balance work and family, and to enjoy what I do.

I love what I do because: it allows me flexibility and creativity.

My biggest accomplishment this year has been: having a 1.4 million home sell within 24 hours after listing (and staging). It had previously been on the market for over 320 days.

When it comes to juggling a young family and my work: I keep focused on my goal, which is to have a successful business and balance with my family life. There are times I overbook myself, and have to remind myself to say ‘no’, and to remember my purpose. I worked full time for so many years, I needed to take a step back and focus on family. The past 4 years have been absolutely incredible. I am able to spend time with my family, and also have a profitable business that provides financially, and feeds my ambitious side. Parents should not have to choose family versus career. You can have both!

My favorite weeknight meal after a long stage is: take out!
