Feature Friday With Renee Bergstrom

This week we are featuring the work of Renee Bergstrom, an expert property stylist. She grew up in the real estate business; her grandparents were successful brokers who owned a real estate firm in Pennsylvania. They were Renee’s initial inspiration for creating Haven Designs, a full service staging and redesign business.

Renee has a creative gift and can walk into a room and know exactly what it needs with just a glance. With an enthusiastic personality and expertise in property styling, Renee thrives on capturing the home with a design to which buyers become emotionally attached. Her passion starts with transformations of a home, life and people. A well-designed room that has function can transform all of that.

I am: a certified, experienced, expert property stylist and I love the creative process that allows me to tell a story through design and staging.  I grew up in the real estate business; my grandparents were successful brokers who owned a real estate firm in Pennsylvania.  They were my first inspiration into the fields of interior design and ultimately, staging.  I studied interior design at The Art Institute of Colorado.  I started with a focus in interior design but, over time, have migrated to doing staging almost exclusively.

Haven Designs, LLC: was founded in 2010 while I was still in school.  Running my business was, at first, a secondary activity to raising my kids.  In 2015, I refocused my business and developed a solid business model to provide the structure and ability to rapidly grow Haven Designs, LLC.  I joined RESA.  I went to my first RESA Las Vegas convention in January 2016.  I have been slowly and steadily growing my vision of Haven Designs into a boutique home staging company.  Haven Designs works to build relationships with highly motivated sellers’ agents and their team looking for individualized service.  My clients appreciate the level of service and experience I bring to the table.

I Love Staging Because: My passion is transformations of a home, life and people.  A well staged home that shows function and a life style that is desirable can transform all of it. The procedures and operations are there to make each job run smoothly, but the end results of each job are what keeps me hungry for more.

My Style: I love mixing different elements of style:  I love mixing wood, metal and reflective surfaces. I also love bold color and patterns.  I find an inspirational piece of artwork as a focal piece and pick the colors that make sense together and repeat them throughout the home in various textures.  It is important to find the rhythm in the color.

Good Staging Should: Enhance the ability of a potential buyer to understand the life style for which the property is suited.  Scale and function for each space is a must, without attention to these two elements, a stager adds no value; just stuff that doesn’t make sense for the space.

Right Now I Am Obsessed With: Oversized abstract artwork that creates a striking bold statement.

Staging Is: a skill that transforms occupied and vacant spaces that create the illusion and understanding of how the space can fit a person’s lifestyle. Being creative in finding solutions and able to juggle multitasks is a must have attribute for a successful staging job.

It’s My Goal To: continue building my brand recognition with builders, investors, realtors, and sellers and grow a solid team that supports growth for the business.  My biggest goal is to start or work with a nonprofit.  My focus is to help anyone struggling and/or aching for a safe place to call home; making it their haven.

My Motto Is: to ‘make your home a haven’ or, in the sense of staging, to see how a home can become a haven.  I also love to say, it’s not about what you have—it’s about how you use it.

My Favorite Meal After A Long Day Of Staging Is: A veggie burger and a cold beer.

My Biggest Accomplishment This Year Has Been:  Apart from the honor of being featured in this article, it is the growth I have experienced this year both as a business woman and a design professional.  I have improved and developed my business model and added a design assistant so I can keep growing.  Professionally, I feel confident and able to be authentic trying new techniques.

I Love What I Do Because: I love how, in one day, I can completely transform a home and capture its beauty.  I get to use my creativity, knowledge, and experience to find the perfect and unique style for each property.  It keeps me on my toes and allows me to push the boundaries.
