An Interview With RESA’S First Black Director on the National Board

Jacquelin Franklin, the first black director on the resa national board

Offering inspiration to other home stagers of color to get involved with leadership within their trade association.

Jacquelin Franklin specializes in interior design and home staging with a proven ability to create custom, functional, and timeless spaces that exude a sense of casual sophistication. She is the founder of NICHEdg based out of New York NY.

Jacquelin comes from a very diverse background, as she shared in a recent RESA webinar. “I was pre-med in college with a concentration in Chemistry. Afterward, I joined the corporate world and worked in various industries, including multi-media and Private Wealth Management. Then, I started my own business. My diverse background has been a significant asset in every facet of my career. It is essential to try different things.” Not only does she have a very diverse professional background, but she’s also a first-generation American.

All of us at RESA HQ and those on the National Board of Directors are proud to have Jacquelin serve as the Real Estate Staging Association’s first Black Director on the National Board and look forward to her perspective on growing legitimacy and awareness in the home staging industry. In celebration of Black History Month, we interviewed Jacquelin about her new role on the board as a Black home stager.

1. How Do You Feel Being The First Black Director To Serve On The RESA National Board?

I am honored and excited about the work we will accomplish together. Most importantly, my appointment allows others to see that when people of color are given opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, we can accomplish great things.

Our Board is an incredible group of people and professionals.  We are going to learn from one another and accomplish a great deal together as a team during a pivotal time in history.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we also celebrate the people who lead the way.  I hope my participation as a member of RESA’s National Board of Directors inspires many others to pursue leadership roles as well.

2. What Would Your Advice Be For Other Black Home Stagers Starting In The Industry?

I would tell them to know there is a real place for us in the industry.

The home staging industry is still relatively young, but it is rapidly growing.  Therefore, there is a wealth of opportunity for black stagers. In addition, there is access to real support from staging associations like RESA to help provide the essential tools required to realize their career goals.

So, don’t be intimidated or, cheat yourself out of a chance to reach your full potential. Trust in yourself and what you can realize for your future.

3. What Black Designer/Stager Do You Admire??

This is a very hard question. There are so many talented professionals in both industries. If I had to pick…I deeply admire and respect Justina Blakeney and what she has accomplished in the design industry. She is the epitome of a self-made entrepreneur. She is an inspiration and it is incredible to see how much she continues to grow and achieve with each year.
