The Portland RESA chapter has 51 registered members and we have also joined together with the local ASHSR chapter, which has 36 members hailing from Oregon as well as Southwest Washington. Our elected officers for 2009 include: President – Kathy Alexander; President-Elect – Peg Prather; Secretary – Margaret Oscilia; VP Membership – Maureen Bray. The RESA Oregon state President is Ruth Chancellor and the Regional VP is Mary DeBella. Our monthly meetings have great speakers with relevant topics and we attribute our chapter’s rapid growth to the camaraderie and support our members provide each other.
For our 2009 community service project, the Portland Chapter of RESA/ASHSR is working with the Annie Ross house, an emergency shelter for families with children. Using our staging skills and desire to give back to the community, we will be converting the basement at the shelter into a resource center for homeless parents. We look forward to helping the Annie Ross House aid families in finding safe shelter and move towards regaining their self-sufficiency.
