Two members of the RESA Vancouver Island Chapter, Valeria Westra, the Chapter President and Daria Bunting, the VP Of Memberships joined HeroWork of the Citizens Counselling Centre, to give a well deserved makeover to their workspace and counselling offices. Citizens Counseling Centre offers affordable and accessible counselling to adult residents of Greater Victoria. They have a sliding fee which is based on family income. All counselling is offered by volunteer counsellors who have been trained and supervised by the Centre. Collaborating with other designers and stagers to make a dated space into a new relaxing, calming space was an amazing experience. It is now a space that staff members can be happy to work in helping others in need and feel safe in the new environment. There were some structural issues that have been fixed by the amazing team of contractors. The spaces that we worked on were a total of ten rooms, six being counselling rooms and four offices for the staff and volunteers. We wanted the space to be calming and soothing for the clients while functional and comfortable for the staff and volunteers. We used colors of the ocean as our palette which flowed throughout all of the offices and counselling rooms. We did this all with donations, DIY projects and fixing up old pieces to be new again. It was a great experience to work on this project and give back to the community, to help change people lives. (Article Submitted by: Valerie Westra)
