Susan Powell Reflects on 2018

Being involved in a leadership position for the Real Estate Staging Association allows you to get involved with your local staging community, while making a difference in the home staging industry. RESA Headquarters is so thankful for those leaders who are making way in their communities and dedicating their time and knowledge to advance professionalism and excellence in real estate staging.

Get to know the 2018 RESA Greater Greater Chicago Chapter President Susan Powell

1. When did you get involved in leadership?

5 years ago as VP of Membership. This past year, I was the President.

2. What made you decide to get involved in RESA leadership?

To make a difference and to a help engage with my peers in the design & staging field. Also, no one else would step up to a leadership role.

3. What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time in RESA leadership?

Increased membership, added structure to our meetings & the use of delegation for programs & projects.
4. What advice do you have for others who are interested in being involved with RESA leadership?
Have patience. Realize your job is herding very creative cats. Just kidding – be open & listen. We’re all professionals and highly creative people – respect & validation to all.
5. What do you hope to see for the staging industry in the next 5 years?
Better training & not willy nilly made up certification programs.  This will lead to more educated & professional stagers that will treat their business as more then a hobby, and price their services accordingly. A better relationship with the real estate industry when it comes to understanding the benefits of a properly staged house.  We aren’t the competition, we are an asset.
