When selling a property, remember that decor does not always have to be the trendiest. Not every buyer likes the sleek, contemporary, no-one-lives-here look, but some trends are universal enough that they will stand the test of time and the buyer appeal test. Here are my picks of this season:
Wall Color
Gray has steered us away from boring beige and overdone taupe. Today’s warm grays are suitable for traditional, transitional, and contemporary styles. They look fabulous with cream and warm whites, and they go well with whatever seasonal color is on trend. Grays even go well with popular gold metallic accessories.
Kitchens
The most popular countertop material is no longer granite; now it’s marble or quartz. Quartz is the better choice from an easy-care perspective and it suits traditional to contemporary styles. Stagers and designers from Toronto to Florida use polished quartz with veining as it looks like Carrara marble without being too gray. Available in large slab format, the material is perfect for large kitchen islands. Because it comes in plain white, quartz makes for interesting backsplashes, too. According to research by the National Association of Realtors (NAR), “Quartz has a reputation as a natural stone that’s virtually indestructible. It also more closely resembles the most luxe classic – marble – without the drawbacks of staining easily.”
Quartz countertops aren’t the only white element that’s a hit in the kitchen today. A recent release from NAR says that despite all the variations in colors and textures for kitchen counters, backsplashes, cabinets and flooring, the all-white kitchen still gets the brass ring. “Seven out of ten of our kitchens have some form of white painted cabinetry,” according to NAR. “All-white does not mean the same white, since variations add depth and visual appeal.”
