What is on Trend? (Part 2 of 3)

When selling a property, remember that decor does not always have to be the trendiest. Not every buyer likes the sleek, contemporary, no-one-lives-here look, but some trends are universal enough that they will stand the test of time and the buyer appeal test. Here are my picks of this season:

IMG_3531Flooring

Hardwood is still a popular choice for flooring: however, younger buyers are looking for practical solutions for high-traffic rooms; hallways, bathrooms, laundry rooms and even kitchens. The 2015 popular choice is porcelain, as it’s less expensive and wears as well as or better than real wood. Porcelain can be found in traditional small tiles or long, linear planks. It is available in a variety of colors and textures, including the popular one-color combos with slight variations for a hint of differentiation.

Security and Technology

Now that everyone in the household possesses at least one form of technology – a smart phone, iPad, or an e-reader – a dedicated space for charging devices is a lure. The most popular location is a niche of a kitchen, somewhere close to the entrance from the garage. Don’t forget about technology-driven security systems such as smartphone monitored, activated and controlled security, nanny cameras, and motion sensors for pets.

Fireplaces

Fireplaces are fashionable – and they are everywhere! Flames have fascinated us since the beginning of time, and the sight of a fire (faux or real) has the universal meaning of warmth and togetherness, even romance. New versions today make this amenity more accessible, and convenient installation means fireplaces are popping up in spaces beyond the traditional living spaces; now they are in bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, foyers and of course outdoor spaces.
