Sandy Sullivan, the heroine of my eighth novel, BEST STAGED PLANS, is hoping to downsize and move on to the next chapter of her life. Since she’s a professional home stager, getting rid of her own house should be easy, but her husband is dragging his feet and their twenty-something-year-old son has returned home to turn the basement into his “bat cave.”
The book has been out for almost a month now. It’s an Indie Next pick and the reviews have been great. “Addicts to HGTV marathons will drool….genuinely delightful” said Booklist. A starred Library Journal review proclaimed, “Fans of HGTV and Cook’s previous charming fiction (Seven Year Switch; Must Love Dogs) will adore this light, funny read.” Publishers Weekly called it a “crowd-pleaser for empty nesters” and a “charmer.”
As thrilled as I am with these kind words, I have to admit it’s been even more exciting to hear from real home stagers who’ve just finished reading BEST STAGED PLANS.
“Have you been secretly following me around and spying on me?” one email, from a stager in Michigan, asked.
Another one, from a stager in Washington, said, “Ohmigod, you’re writing my life.”
“Thanks for writing a clever and insightful new book that will really help to get the word out about the home staging industry,” an email from a stager in Massachusetts said.
I hope that turns out to be true. I think professional home staging is a fabulous up-and-coming industry filled with hard-working, creative professionals, and I enjoyed every minute of the research I did while writing this novel.
I thank you all so much for embracing this book – it really means a lot to me. And for those of you who haven’t read BEST STAGED PLANS yet, I hope you’ll take a minute to click on the link below and let me read you an excerpt.
