Feature Friday – Joya Fields Interiors

Joya Fields Interiors offers custom home staging, redesign, and organization services to homeowners in Baltimore and surrounding areas. Owner Joya Fields’ love of design and rearranging rooms began as a young girl and grew as an adult going on to stage family homes, rental properties and helped friends redesign their new homes.

As an accomplished author, Joya is able to bring her eye for design and passion for storytelling together to help potential buyers make an emotional connection to the homes and easily picture the “story” they hope to live.

“Staging gives me a lot of flexibility in my busy life, and I get to use the creative side of my brain which begs to tell stories– whether it be the books I write or the homes that I stage.”

Joya is a RESA® member and an HSR Certified Professional, a designation offered by RESA® Accredited Education Provider, Home Staging Resource

“I started my staging career after my own house was staged for sale. I saw the difference it made in marketing the house. I chose to support and be a part of RESA® because I understand how important it is in business to connect with peers and have an organization that supports our business goals by offering continuing education.”

My motto is…

I frequently borrow Henry Ford’s motto “Whether you think you can, or can’t, you’re right.” It’s all about attitude. Keep going. One foot in front of the other with a positive attitude. The Little Engine That Could was my favorite book growing up.

My morning ritual is…

Coffee and require everyone to stay away from me for at least 15 minutes.

My goal is…

My goal is to make sellers lots of money, grow my business big enough to keep my kids employed, and to add senior downsizing to my business.

My favorite meal after a long day of staging is…

Pizza. Always pizza, with onions, olives, and lots of veggies.

When faced with a struggle…

When faced with a struggle, I let myself freak out a bit. Then I remind myself how much I’ve accomplished, how I’ve made it through a lot of tough times, and refocus on how to break through the struggle.

I am…

Full of energy and it’s contagious! I tend to be very positive.

My go to staging accessory is…

Plants. Plants on shelves, countertops, sinks, floors, bedroom, coffee tables, centerpieces. Green is such a great color and plant are a super way to add it.

My personal aesthetic is…

My personal aesthetic is simple; nature. Keeping things simple relaxes most people. Bringing nature inside by using wood, nature colors, flowers, and plants garners a cohesive look from inside to outside.

Good staging should…

Good staging should tell a story that speaks to the highest number of buyers possible. “Here’s where we’ll entertain”, “this is a great place for out Thanksgiving get together”.

Right now I am obsessed with…

I’m obsessed with Boho! I love the soft energy it generates.

When I am not working I enjoy…

When I am not working, I’m usually hunting for treasures at Goodwill (to reuse for staging or for me), raising chickens, tending my garden, and running around with my 5 year old grandson, husband and 3 grown kids.

Who is your role model and why?

My role model in life has always been my grandmother. She was a kind, creative person and I don’t think I ever heard her raise her voice. She was very supportive of my creativity as I grew and I miss her smile so much.

When you are in a rut creatively where do you go or what do you do to get out of it?

Go for a hike or do laundry/clean. Using rote memory to do tasks helps relax my mind enough to let my head clear. Then, out of nowhere, suddenly, an answer occurs to me!

What does a perfect day look like to you?

A perfect day for me would include a coffee start, and a mixture of fun and work. I would drink my coffee leisurely, get to work on some social media posts, and then head out the door for a consultation. After, I would meet a staging friend for more… you guessed it, coffee!

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?

I love being alone. When I am alone in my car, I am usually thinking about what I can post on social media as I go through my day. I’m a big fan of showing people “the real you”, and what you do via social media. Or, I could be singing at the top of my lungs.

What project are you really excited about right now and why?

So excited about a vacant property I’ll be staging later this month. They are repeat customers and do every little thing I suggest. They’ll be painting the colors, replacing carpet/floors with my suggestions, and letting me have free range with furniture placement and room design.
